Handwriting At Oaklands
'Hand Writing Without Tears'
This year we introduced a new developmental programme called ‘Handwriting Without Tears’. The programme encourages independence by working alongside other self-help skills such as washing hands, getting dressed etc .Students learn to recognise and name wooden pieces and carry out a range of teacher directed activities which help to improve understanding of size, shape and positioning. This work is the foundation of letter recognition and formation. The programme is tactile and multisensory and students have fun while learning to share, take turns and follow instructions.
Keyboarding without tears
Students take part in weekly Keyboarding without tears sessions. The programme follows a developmental approach which builds on pre-keyboarding and keyboarding skills. It introduces how to use the mouse and keyboard through fun and engaging activities.
